Another 5 stars for Kristen Callahan!
If you’ve read my review of Firelight you know I became an instant fan of this new author Kristen Callahan. Ember was just as much of a joy to read, she is a very talented writer! Ember is a prequel to Firelight, although I am glad I read Firelight first. There are aspects that would not have made sense had I not.
This prequel fills in a lot of the blanks from Firelight, showing us some of what Archer has been through in his search for a cure, and what Miranda has been through living with her narcissistic father and dealing with people who are terrified of her gift. It goes a long way in explaining where both Archer and Miranda are coming from at the beginning of their relationship. Not only does it fill in the blanks, but it does it well. By the end I felt like I had a far better handle on who both of them are as characters, what their motivations are, and how they got to where they are, even though I thought I knew them pretty well before.
What I loved most though was that even though Archer and Miranda had barely met, and were not together at any point, it was still all about the two of them as a couple. How did she manage that you ask? Pick up a copy and find out. If you haven’t read Firelight yet, you should really go remedy that. You won’t regret it!
